Here, I craft a Medieval Church from templates I created. This model is made of foam board, XPS foam, bass wood, and a bit of drywall compound. #mythreach #Ep01 #miniature #medieval #church This project took over 40 hours to build, and is the very first thing I’ve created from scratch like this. Before this, I just put together existing models. My design was based off a typical long box design. For scale, I increased the height quite a bit, vaulting high above the door. I wasn’t sure what scale to, so I compromised between D&D at 1:60 and the more common 1:48, and settled on 1:50, which is closer to the average mini’s scale. I’ve made a haunted house with a whimsical flare, made entirely from EVA craft foam. #mythreach #Ep02 #halloween #haunted #house The hardest part about this build was using hot glue and trying not to burn myself (hint: I fail). This type is EVA foam is found in a lot of places in thickness that range from 2mm to 10mm. For the walls I used 5mm and the more common 2mm for the shingles and siding. Yup, the stone is actually crushed shells that I picked up from a craft store. I bought them, not knowing what I was going to use them for, but after noticing their irregular edges, I thought they could look just like creek stone...just after a quick paint job. I’ve made a haunted house with a whimsical flare, made entirely from EVA craft foam. #mythreach #Ep04 #well #tabletop After I made a large well, I thought it would be interesting to make the same design, but at a reduced size. My biggest challenge was the creek stone, because sea shells just wouldn’t cut it this time. Wondering what to do, I grabbed a sponge. I would recommend going to a craft store and finding a piece of foam that has the “bubble” pattern you like, however they aren’t cheap. So I’ve included a link in my affiliate section that may help. It’s large, square, and comes in a 3 pack, so you should have all the pattern variety you’ll ever need in one purchase...that’s almost the same price as the hobby store for a single, small sponge. Check out my first ASMR where I cut up 1000 XPS foam bricks, that I sell on Etsy! #mythreach #Ep7 #tabletop #foam #bricks I cut foam in pretty much one size. 1/4”x1/4”x9/16”. Why? Mainly because I find that it’s a size that can work as “brick” in 1:24 scale, or a “block” in 1:48 scale. My very first project, the Medieval Church, took about 1500 bricks that I cut by hand. It took me nearly 4 hours just to make bricks! After that, I said, I will never cut bricks this way again and why should anyone else. And the rest is history...well, actually present(ly) on my Etsy. I don’t know why I wanted the top to come off, but all I knew is that it was gonna happen. I guess I should have better reasons for doing things, but I’ll leave that for future builds. I decided pretty early into the build that I wanted snow, I had a snow medium that I bought some time ago and thought I’d give that a try.
